The English translator thought Vi- | shinsky said “he acts like a gazelle on a rampage.” The Spanish trans- lator, puzzled by the word, finally figured out that Vishinsky was try- ing to say “he is like gases on 2! rampage.” All was confusion for a time but | this is the true story of what Vi- shinsky said. You are in- vited to come and see, Sunday school The Sunday School is held at the Chapel, 535 Francis Street, and be- gins at ten o’clock. While the little chapel is crowded, there is always room for one more. Parents without church connec- tion are invited by Mr. Ralph Noble, the superintendent, to bring their children. Mr. and Mrs. John Padgett are having a fine time with the Youth Fellowship which meets at 6:30 each Sunday evening. y Teen-agers are invited to join this group and participate in their religious and social activities. Moslems Oust Governing Board CAIRO, Egypt (®—The Constitu- tent Assembly of Egypt’s powerful Moslem Brotherhood ousted the association’s government council Thursday and granted Supreme Guide Hassen el Hodeiby an “‘in- definite vacation.” Hodeiby, in hiding for several weeks for fear of arrest, was sup- ported by the council in an under- ground canipaign attacking pre- mier Gamal Abdel Nasser’s gov- ernment for concluding the Suez agreement with Britain. The assembly’s decision was an- nounced in a communique signed by 73 of its 113 members. SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON By RALPH ROGERS Guidance for Family Living. Prov. 4; 6:20 = 7; 17:1; 19:13-14; 31:10-13 If parents and adults would read and heed the wise counsel contain- ed in the lesson today they should have little fear of the conduct and behavior of our youngsters of this generation, Solomon was a great’ and good man largely due to the counsel of his father David who said, “So- lomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imagina- tions of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off forever. (I Chron. 28:9), Heed Parents Counsel ‘The accumulated wisdom of the past is worthy of consideration, Too often our children look upon their parents as being ‘old fogy’ and not applicable to modern thought and life, They frequently pay the heavy price with a sad ex- perience. In the typically Jewish household the father acted as the house priest and directed the wor- Ship of the family. The modern family which has discarded this worthy practice can expect from his youngsters behavior which of- ten brings reproach upon the fam- J. Edgar Hoover who has been in a position to study the cause of crime in these United States costing the American family an average of $495 per year has this advice to give. He says, ‘Juvenile delinquency has grown to alarm- ing proportions in comparison with the adult rate ... Instilling moral responsibility in a youth must be- gin at home... In all too many cases the parents have utterly fail- ed to carry out their responsibili- ties. They have failed by neglect, bad example, excessive drinking, quarreling and bickering in front of the children. The files of the FBI show that many delinquents have had no religious training whatsoever, They have never learn- ed the value of prayer to solicit divine help. In times of tempta- tion they succumb, for they have never learned to rely upon God and to obey his teachings.” The parent is the one to be an authority. In far too many homes it is not the father, but the child who decides what he will do. The parent is shirking a responsibility. The father should pass on to his children what he had learned from his father. “Let thy heart retain my words.” The child learns more readily in the young and impres- sionable age things he will not forget later in life. If the parent does not go to Sunday School or Church, it is not likely that the child will be impelled to go, Par- ents who allow their children to choose what they will do will later rue their neglect. | The Foolish Son Proverbs tells that a “foolish son is the calamity of his father.” (Prov. 19:13). An indifferent and neglectful parent is the foolish one who allows the son to grow up without good connsel, Indulgent parent is really the criminal par- ent. Most of us are familiar with parents whose hearts are broken because of the behavior of their children, The boy or girl may be in jail paying a penalty for a crime against society. The boy or girl may be reformed in time, but the stain cannot be erased from the conscience of the parent. The son is the father’s calamity. Many of our problem children are the product of a broken home. Proverbs seems to lay the blame on the wife although we may dis- agree. The RSV translates it, “a wife’s quarreling is a continual dripping of rain.” It is true that the chattering, hen-pecking wife can drive a man to distraction or to drink. That situation can be avoided or corrected if the hus- band takes over his position as the head of the house. Most wives will go along with a good husband who assumes his responsibility .in a manly and Godly manner. Proper home adjustment should be made )|for the sake of the children. Carl Sandburg tells the story of Joe Elser in his “Always The Young Strangers.” It seems that |Joe had a wife who ragged and nagged him, just a natural-born SUNDAY SCHOOL, 10:00 A.M. SAGSSt re MEETING, |] In Spanish scold. He stood it for years and then one day he walked out of the house with his tool-chest on his shoulder and her standing in the doorway crying at the top of her voice, He never came back and never saw her again. This was a broken home and Joe died a lonely, unhappy man. What the writer of Proverbs is trying to say, is for all men to carefully pick out an angel and then shower her with tender love and affection which will keep her angelic through all the trials and tribulations of mar- Tied life. Such environment will produce dutiful and obedient chil- dren. Parents should read the sev- en deadly sins and impress them on their children as found in Pro- verbs 6:16-19, The Dutiful Wife We may question in this modern age the qualities of a dutiful wife as described in Proverbs 31:10 f. It seems that the place for woman was in the home. They had spe- cifie duties to perform and they consisted in the management of the household. It could be that far too many of our good women to- day have taken their place beside their men in helping to make a liy- ing. Often this is done at the ex- pense of rearing children prop- erly. Not only are the children neglected but in the mad seram- ble for the luxuries and conven- iences so bountifully offered for a price, parents lose sight of their responsibility as parents, There is an old saying that a boy does what his father tells him until he is fourteen. After that he does what the father does. If the father boasts that he won at a game of chance, the lad will think it smart to try his luck. If the fa- ther disregards traffic rules and courtesy, the youngster beginning to drive thinks it proper to -like- wise. If the father is too sophis- ticated to humble himself in pray- er in public worship, the boy sneers at the idea. Those are the youngs- ters who fall into the hands of the FBI of which J, Edgar Hoover speaks. In the same way the daughter is likely to diregard moral principles if the mother scoffs at relgion and indulges in questionable behavior. The mother who stands around with a cocktail glass in her hand a good part of the time may have the daughter led in some night ‘drunk as a coot.’ No house can be divided against itself. Husband and wife and chil- dren must live and work together toward a common objective. The house built on the solid rock of faith in God, and practicing that faith in regular public and private worship tdgether will have chil- dren who rise up and call them blessed. Such a house of harmony and love will be not only a guide for family living, but also a fortress | against the evils surroundings us, pyrighted outlines Division of Christ- National Council of es of Christ in the U. 8. y permission.
