SUE JONES, Editor 2 THRIFTY GLAMOR — Festive lace blouses, easy to make at home. A lace blouse can be one of the most useful items in a girl’s wardrobe. Time was when such a thing was perishable extravagance, strictly for state occasions.. But miracle fibers have made lace as sturdy as ging- ham, and women everywhere are discovering that @ lace blouse ean be worn all year ‘round, for day and evening. No more expensive dry-cleaning, ei- ther. Many can be dunked in the wash basin and kept constantly fresh and ready to go. A lace blouse is even more economical if you make it yourself, and this is easy to do, now that handsome laces are widely available at piece goods counters, Local sewing center experts have designed two lace blouses that are easy to make on your sewing machine, using attachments to take the place of tedious hand work. A flattering bow-neck blouse requires only 1 5/8 yards of 35-inch lace. It is faced with nylon tulle, and the big bow adds a gentlé touch to a tailored suit. A new turtleneck lace blouse is made with 12 yards of lace edging an inch and a half wide. The zigzag attachment on your machine is used to stitch the bands of lace over nylon tulle. With either blouse, wear your prettiest strap- less underpinnings—they are meant to show. For day-time wear, team them with a dark suit, take off the jacket to go on to cocktails or dinner. For holiday festivities, wear them with a skirt of black velvet or make matching full skirt and blouse of black lace. » For complete free directions for making the two blouses described, write to: Lace Blouses, Room 1205, 341 Madison Ave., New York, N.
