Society — News Of Interest To Women SUE JONES, Editor O’Bryant Tells Truman PTA Of School Trends Horace O’Bryant, Supervisor of Public Instruction, in his speeech Tuesday night to the parents and teachers present at the Truman P. T. A. meeting. stressed import- ant factors in the future develop- ment of education facilities in our community. “The greatest problem facing the school board,” he said, “is keeping up with the baby “crop,” This past year there were 1200 infants born in Monroe ‘ County which means that six years from now adesuate classrooms must be provided for these future first graders. O’Bryant then went on to say that even if these classrooms were provided for this anticipated group, it would mean nothing unless there were competent teachers to carry out the education program. ~ “Your classrooms are only as good as your teachers, and unless more attention and recognition is given those men and women, many will feel it a thankless job and turn to some more satisfying pro- fession,” he stated. In quoting some ways in which teachers should be recognized in the community O’Bryant stressed the importance of making them feel welcome in our social and ci- vic groups. The teaching profes- sion is a significant one, and most of us have forgotten that at one time so much respect was accord- ed a teacher that the whole class ,Toom stood when the teacher en- tered the room. This honor is still due those who are the leaders of ‘our children, A recent. group attended the Meeting, showing that, as O’Bry- ant pointed out, there is a grow- ing trend of interest toward the parent - teacher relationship. After this interesting - program, the hospitality committee invited everyone to the first floor where refreshments and a social hour fol- lowed. The room count for the meeting Was won by Mrs. Kearns’ 1st grade and Mrs. Cochran's 4th grade. a3 SHE’S ENGAGED — Mr. and Mrs. Blondon B.
