Garden Club President Calls Board Meeting A meeting of the Garden Club board of directors has been called for 4:00 Wednesday afternoon at the Woman’s Club. Mrs. Lee Goddard, president of the Garden Club, has an- nounced that the regular Octo- ber activities would go ahead according to schedule, with the regular meeting on Thursday night at 8:00 at the Woman’s Club. Visitors are cordially invited. JayShees To Choose Project For Year JayShees will bring their sugges tions for worthwhile projects to the next meeting of the group. The members will select one as the club’s major effort for the year. Plans were also made at last week’s meeting for a Halloween party to be co-sponsored with the JayCees. : The president, Gerry Sweeting, appointed Romona Knight as chair- man of the committee for the par. ty with Pauline Ketchings, Dora Rodriguez and Mitzi Fisherman as- siting. Mrs. Sweeting, who was recently installed as JayShee president, ap- pointed Annice Curry as chairman of the charity committee with Bet- ty Thompson and Phyllis Higgs as her committee members. Orchid Illaqua will be chairman of the en tertainment committee and Jeanne Knowles was named as chairman of the hospitality committee with Gena Horton and Marie Pinder as members. Juanita Pinder will serve as chairman of the house committee assisted by Mary Alice Lester and Piedad Archer. Betty Thompson will be chair- man for the JayCee paper. The membership committee chairman is Pauline Ketchings with Dora Rodriguez and Con- chita Alonzo as members. Betty Collins will serve as par- liamentary and orientation com- mittee chairman. Program chairman is Diane Saw- yer assisted by Norma Dopp, Ra- mona Knight and Betty Collins. Mitzi Fisherman will handle the club’s publicity and the scrapbook chairman is Mary Jane Pierce. Pauline Ketchings will act as moni- tor. After the meeting, held at the home of Phyllis Higgs, members played several games planned by the new program chairman, Diane Sawyer. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Fleet Sonar Group To Greet Newcomers Thurs. The Fleet Sonar Officers’ Wives Group will be hostesses at a “‘New- comer Coffee’’ at the home of Mrs. Robert McKinley, 2407 Flagler Ave- nue, at 10:00 Thursday morning. The coffee will welcome officers’ wives of the USS Blair, Raymond, M. J. Manuel, Tweedie, Norman, O’Brien and APD Burdo.
