You'll Be Weleome At Church Tomorrow Freedom Of Religion And Of Press Are Basically Alike | World-Wide Communion Sunday } To Be Observed By Local Churches The Key West “Ministerial As- sociation is especially anxious that all Christians take part in holy Communion Sunday since it is World-Wide Communion Sunday. There may be differences in our historic interpretation of the oc- casion, but it is a time when all Christians striving for a common objective can share together the inspiration ‘of a united fellowship and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Different Interpretations It is interesting to note that there are several interpretations of the Lord’s Supper. While all believers followed the manual of Christian doctrine approved by the Roman Catholic Church up until] the Reformation, it was Maitin Luther who questioned the doc- trine that the bread of the Lord’s Supper became-the real dody of and the wine his real blood. insist that since the of Christ is every- was a contempor- Luther and they presence of the body and blood of Christ in the bread and wine. While Luther insisted that when Jesus said, “This is my body,” he meant it in a literal way, Zwin- gli contended that it was only fig- urative and Jesus meant, “This. signifies my body.” : The differences of these two re- formers were never reconciled and each drew a strong and determin. Later John Calvin appeared on the scene as a vigorous and able reformer and he took a -middle ofthe road between these two views. : His. views were expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith where in it states that the body tealy or carnaly inte bread an orally or carnally read an “e “yet as really, but spirit- tually, present to the faith of be- lievers in that ordinance, as the elements themselves are to’ the outward senses.”” “What ever the view of the be- liever, there has been a growing spirit of unity and brotherhood among the Christians of the world all seeking to be one.in Christ. All the other religions of the world have characteristics of the people where they were originated and they could not be adapted to other peoples. But the Gospel of Christ is like the pure, colorless, tasteless water that comes running out of the foun- tain of life. It runs smoothly and acquires the color and the shape and the taste of the land were it runs. That | is why our Lord prayed to his Fa- ther that all may be one in God. Hope Of World Christ is the only hope of the! world today to become one world | united for peace, love, and redemp- | tion. It is indispensable that his | Gospel should be preached and ac: | cepted by all the peoples of the | world. NORMAN SALIT President, Synagogue Council of America There is a wide difference be- tween the two freedoms of press and religion. The former di- rected to the community, for no one publishes a newspaper for his own information alone. The latter is directed to the individual, for a man’s relation to his Maker falls within the final jurisdiction of his own soul, Yet these two freedoms, so dif. ferent in orientation, are basically alike. They are each bound up with freedom of conscience, and they both deal directly with the wel- fare of society, The POblisher not allowed to Print all the news, and the editor | not permitted to write freely there- | on, are prevented from doing their vital work in the way called for by their ‘hearts and minds. Such | pressure is ag much a constriction on conscience as that which would bar a man from his father’s House of God, orprevent him from any form of worship. And these two freedoms are alike essential to the good of the com munity, for a people deprived of all the facts, or of interpretation cf events, is robbed of the data by | is j which they can work toward their national and individual goals.
