Reappraisal By GOP Needed, Stevenson Says CINCINNATI @% — Adlai Stevenson last night called for an “agonizing reappraisal” in the hearts of Republican politicians “who for so long nourished us on myths and McCarthyism.” “One of the myths and distor- tions that has been carefully cul- tivated for a long time is that the Democratic party is anti-busi- ness,” he told a Democratic cam- paign dinner. The 1952 presidential candidate said the Republican ‘hatchet men will conduct the smear attacks on the flanks” while President Eisenhower delivers “little ser- monettes.”” But he said the election this week of a Democratic governor in Maine for the first time in 20 years confirms that “‘our people are tired of this unending diet of equal portions of niceness, nonsense and nastiness.” Z Sevenson devoted a substantial part of his address to business and how he said it prospered under Democratic presidents. “For every three business enter- prises existing in this country when the Democrats took office in 1933, there were four by 1953,” he said. “The rate of business failures during the so-called Golden 20s was 20,000 a year. But that figure dropped to only 6,000 a year even during the hard post-World War II period of adjustment from war to Peace to defense mobilization. “Corporation profits after taxes were more than twice as high in 1952 as in the Republican peak year of 1929.” He said both the Democratic party and the business community Democrat} ' want ‘‘vigorous, stimulating com- Petition in a growing economy.” | “And I hope that hard-headed | businessmen will take some hard Aviators Co To looks at the record at those old Ad S i slogans about Democratic ret: Line chool | wingers,” he remarked. ‘Maybe | sit: iG ’ Ae | the term ‘left’ refers to the asset | Five Naval aviators now statiol side of the balance sheet.” jed at the Fleet All Weather Trai While the Demoerats favor busi- jing Unit, Atlantic, Boca Chica ness, he said, the party regrets the | Field, will be transferred on Sep- Cary Grant ‘Has “Dream Wife” Woe Sparked by amusing dialogue, in- ventive characterizations and rib- |tickling comedy antics, “Dream Wife” bring Cary Grant,, Deboran present prevailing theory of the Republicans that the way to help 165,000,000 people is by “granting | special favors and advantages to! a few, whether by tax laws, smoth- | | ering public power development, or | giving away our natural resour- ces.” The most important thing to any business—a corner drug store or a) tember 21 to the General Line School at Monterey, California. Here is ‘the situation of this new M-G-M laugh hit. A young and suc- cessful American business man, engaged to a career girl with the ; State Department, goes to the Mid- ‘dle East on business and is cap- tivated by a lovely young princess who from birth has been taught the art of making a man happy. Returning to this country, Clem is made strikingly aware of the jcontrast between the seductive princess Tarji, who anticipates his every wish and the over-efficient Effie, who seems more zealous a- bout her international duties than in the happiness and comforts of her groom-to-be. A quarrel ends their engagement and Clem promptly proposes to Tarji by cable, with the result that she arrives in New York with an imposing entourage, a language all her own and a host of Eastern |PAINTING ORDERED |FROM LOCAL ARTIST | Mrs. Ralph D.
