Youth Caravan Will Appear At Ast Methodist Church This Weel: The young people of Key West have a special treat in store for; them! The Youth Caravan Team, composed of four college students and their counselor, will be at the First Methodist Church during the week of July 24 - 31. These young people are devoting eight weeks of their summer vaca- tion to the young people of six cities in Florida. We consider it a privilege to have them with us dur- ing this next week. Team Members Members of the team are Made-/j Saturday, July 24, 1954 lyn Joy Robichaux, from the Uni- | @ versity of Texas; Jo Ann Bratton, from Asbury College; Carlene Young, from Southwest Missouri State College; John L. Nelson, from Iowa State Teachers College; and their counselor, Annabelle Fos- ter, from Stetson University. These young people will lead the | youth of Key West in worship, in, study, and in recreation each even- ing, beginning Monday, with sup- per at 6 o’clock. ' Saturday, July 24, at 7:30 p. m., the young people of the First Me- | thodist Church will meet with the Team to plan for the week. All Young People Invited Beginning Sunday, all young People of the city are invited ‘o share in this special youth week. The Team will lead the Sunday evening church services at 7:30 Pp. m. During the Sunday morning church service, Rev. Touchton will speak on the topic, “Changing Character is Our Business.” As a basis for his sermon, the minister has chosen a quotation from the speech ‘‘Measures to Resist Phi- lip,” in which Demosthenes is re- ported to have said, “It is impos- sible, I say, to have a high and noble spirit while you are engaged in petty and mean employment; whatever be the pursuits of men, their character must be similar.” Church’s Business The Christian Church is in bus- iness to help people to change their characters in the upward di- rection. The church had its birth with the coming of God in human form. Jesus of Nazareth, the Mes- siah, the Christ, helped men to change their lives that they might become centers of spiritual power for achieving God’s purposes for all men to live rich and full- lives. The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Bernard Roberts, will render “special music at both services. A cordial invitation to attend ..8etvices at this church is given to visitors and to servicemen. This is the unique method the church has used for the past four years to wel- come those who are attending the church for the first time. During the entire period the plan has been in effect there have not been fewer than three persons in attendance for the first time at any given morning service. The greatest number of “first-timers” was thirty-nine. Cards Given to Visitors Although this method of welcom- ing visitors may be unique it is rather simple. Instead of using a guest book the ushers are furnished with a number of ‘“First-Timer” cards especially designed for the convenience of the visitor and the church record. These cards great- ly facilitate the visitors registra- tion. The filled in cards find their way into the hands of the minister. When the services reaches the “Welcome To First-Timers” stage he is able to give the home-town, home- church, and name of those who are present for the first time. Probably the most profitable re- sults of this method for welcoming new-comers is the fact that it makes it possible for people from BAHAT WORLD FAITH For Information Regarding DISCUSSION GROUP and FREE LITERATURE Please Call Mrs. Ethel Crane Secretary TELEPHONE 2-2716 HRIST TONIGHT, 8:00 P.M.
