Will it be all right if I tell the reader that ‘Don P@trait Studio’ means ‘a top- notch picture’? I can see by hese samples here on the table that you're not exaggeratiy.” Educational Background Pat Creekmore is. a gradu@e of several schools of photography and has been an in 1 years. le my job is selling ¢d any objection to a space-buyer pftting himself (or herself) on the back, I try to be fairly careful of descriptive material that is carried under my own bydine. Therefore, I asked Pat for evidence pertaining to h perience. Letters of recommendation from outstanding firms, clippings from substantial newspapers, and materials of this nature convinced me that Pat wasn't one of the “heré today, gone tomorrow” photographers which Key Westers have come to know to their sorrow, E The Don Ray Portrait Studio states its case to the public in rather conservative terms and J like it better for doing so. “We believe,” the studio “that our technicians Gre unsurpassed in their profession and that a portrait Pat Creékmore will po wi fondest éxpectations.” “5 Navy Persornel Invited * Navy personnel are especially welcomed at the Don Ray Studio. In order to be able to cater to both the Navy and civilian population of the Island, Pat Creekmore has set the store hours from 12 noon until 9:00 o'clock each night. These evening hours are a novelty in themselves for a Key West business. Working men and women find it diffi- cult to get away from their jobs in time to accomplish the little chores around town that they so often want to do. Getting a portrait made is something that is usually put off because of the hardship entailed in securing a free hour during the d 5 Now that the Don Ray Studio is staying open until nine o'clock, the entire family will be able to get together and visit the place. There is nothing any nicer for that family album than a group portrait and Don Ray has some es- pecially attractive prices for this kind of picture. : Portrait Paintings By the way, if you're interested in oil portraits, minia- ture or large, be sure and talk to Pat Creekmore. She works with a well-known artist—Leiber Freidenthal of Atlanta— and the two of them have produced some outstanding tings. ‘ Pat showed me a letter from an old-time friend of my Georgia days, Senator Richard B. Russell. He was unstint- ing ae his praise of the portrait which Freidenthal had done ior le Prices on these oils run rather high. That is to be ex- pected . are treasures which will be passed down the family ling for generations. Miniatures cost from $300 to $3,000—lifegize paintings, $500 - $3,000—and up. I'm mentioning this—not because I think any large num: ber of us will go tushing down to Don Ray for a couple of dozen oil portraitg—but because the item is newsworthy here in Key West where oil paintings are sperecinned: Per- haps there are a few people on the Island who have the money and have been waiting for this kind of opportunity to come along. Appreciation Expressed Pat Creekmore asked me to express her appreciation to all the people here in Key West who have been so nice wie in the few weeks that Don Ray Portrait Studio has yn. “The public lis been grand,” she said, “and I'm be- ginning to undersignd and love the town. At first, I was sort of bewildered by the unconventional manner in which business was conducted. Now I appreciate the fact that ‘This Rock of Ours,’ as you call it, is unique. Here in Key West there is none of the hustle and bustle or bluffing belligerency that is so common in other places in Florida.” “There you go using those big words again,” I told Pat. “You want to be careful what you say because by the time I get it pecked oution a typewriter, it is likely to look as though you're Custing the people out,” - Address Repeated Den it Studio hasn't had its telephone instal]- eee on the address. It is located at 705 Duval Street. That is in the new building on the corner of Angela and Duval, one block before you reach the Monree Go down anditalk to Pat Creekmore.
