SOCIETY — PERSONALS — NEWS Ok ITEMS OF INTEREST TO EVERY@NE SUE JONES, Editor Page 2 Safety Patrol At Poinciana ‘School Receives Awards Forty-five American Automobile Association certificates were awarded to members of the Poin- ciana Elementary School Patrol at a special Safety Patrol assembly held at the school auditorium Tues- day afternoon. The certificates were given out by Raymond Blais. Baseballs were awarded to the “honor patrol’ members James Johnson, John Laudenslager, Lar- ty Miggs, Eugene Smith, Charles Mendoza, Ronald McDaniels, Don- ald McDaniels and William Mc- Ewen. The girl’s honor award went to Pauilette Zimmerman. Capt. Laurie Roberts of the School Guard. presented. the. inter- -section award to Mike Gaines. Robert Harris, captain of the Poinciana Safety Patrol was given an official National League base- * ball in recognition of his work with the patrol during\ the year. Patrol Lieutenant, David Bishop also re- ceived an official baseball for his service this year. Lt. Rule, of the USS Salinan, was guest speaker and had as his topic ‘General Safety and Bicycle Safety.” Principal Albert Carey spoke on the “Importance of the Safety Patrol.” Raymond Blais, director of the Poinciana Safety Patrol and phy- sical education instructor at Poin- ciana School expressed his grati- fication at having so many parents present this first Safety Patrol as- sembly. The Poinciana Safety Patrol has been very active this year and has compiled an enviable safety re- cord among the school’s pupils. He also submitted a list of attractions available. for next season. The Key West Community Con- cert Association is eager to pre- sent at least one group attraction next season. Group attractions are heavily booked each season, and due to difficulties in working out travel and other problems, they must be booked in advance. All officers and directors of the association were re-elected at the last concert in. April. The board accepted the resignation of Wil- liam Neblett with regret and elect- ed Miss Mary Ann Matchett to serve in Mr. Neblett’s place. It was announced at the meet- ing, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geoge Mills White that the eighth annual campaign for mem- bership in the Key West Com- munity Concerts will be held dur- ing the last week in October. Capt. Begelman Here For Son’s Graduation Captain Albert Begelman will ar- tive today from New York City for the graduation of his son, Bill, from Key West High School. _ Captain Begelman was schedul- ed to arrive in time to attend the Class Night exercises at the high school auditorium tonight. Mr. and Mrs. ‘Castro are leay- ing Key West, and on behalf of the JayShees, Mrs, Illacqua expressed regret at losing one of the elub’s most active members. _ Mrs. Isadore Rodriguez was ap- Pointed to the board of directors and Mrs. Charles Fisherman to the parliamentary committee. A very interesting program on the history of the JayShees was presented by Mrs. Sam Collins and Mrs. Charles Curry, past presi- dent of the club. The duties of all officers and committees were also outlined. In the future, this pro- gram will be repeated for the bene- fit of each new member to ‘join the club.
