Unbeaten Key West Nine Faces Coral Gables Revit xk AK ok xk *k * k 2 ok x ke *& ko kk eek ee Bardabl, Poinciana Produce $231 Kennel Club Quiniela In 8th Race kkk Two-Game Series Slated Thursday And Friday At Wickers Stadium The Key West High nine : ; | goes back into action Thurs- day night when they meet the highly touted Coral Gab- les Cavaliers. Following | Thursday’s encounter the two clubs will go at it again on Friday night. Both of | these contests count in the | district standings. Each team | in the district must play | each other twice. At the end | of the season the two teams | with the best records, repre- sent the district at the state tourney. The Conchs have three wins against no losses in district play while Coral Gables has won two and lost none. The Cavaliers are paced by short stop Jack Langer and Joe Atwood. Langer besides being the best short | stop i> the Miami area is also a pretty fair pitcher when called on to pitch. Atwood is a Jack-of-all- trades, playing just about any- where on the ‘ield. Last year the Coneks won the first game of a two game series from the Cava- liers. The second game was rained out with Coral Gables owning a one run lead. Most of the Gables squad is -back from last year and a good contest is in the offing. The Key West squad is intact and ready for the coming battle. Only position which is uncertain is right field with Leeburg Knowles, Jerry Pita, Fred Curry and Roger Bean fighting it out for the start- ing berth. Second sacker Eloy Rodriguez | Key West Kennel Club Results and short stop Julio Santana have | |, © both proven their value as deen- Stve men having handled twenty- one chances with but one error thus far this season. George Lastres and Gibby Gates will hurl the two games with Don Cruz and Stuart Yates both ready for action. Julio Henriquez who is leading the Conchs hitting parade with a .400 average will handle the catching duties with Sidney Kerr available to spell him if the need arises. Harold Solomon blossomed forth as a hitting threat during the last game when he drove in two runs on two timely hits. The heads up play of Biff Salgado at first base has proven him a capable suc- cessor to Robert Lastres. A public address system is be- ing installed to announce the game. Programs are being printed and will be sold at the game. Game time is 8:15 at Wickers Field. : TONIGHT’S ENTRIES FIRST RACE — 5-16 mile Grade 4 Tahiti Ann Fancy Trouble Restore Queen’s Mark Capricious Lady Lady Crystal Spiedell Easy Whirl SECOND RACE — 5-16 mile Grade 5 Steel Band Dancing Jill R.
