It would be a face without a smile; a feast without a welcome. —Mrs. Clara Luca Balfour. To me the meanest flower that biows can give thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears. —William Wardsworth. To analyze the charms of flow- ers is like dissecting music; it‘is ong of those things which is far better to enjoy, than to attempt fully to understand. —Henry T. Tuckerman, Latin American Presbyterian Sermon Based On Old Hymn “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” — the words of an old and familiar bymn will be the theme of tomor- row’s morning’s sermon at the First Presbyterian Church. This is the third in the series of Lenten Sermons being given by the Rev. Richard E. Coulter. The pur- pose of this series is to emphasize a deepening of the spiritual life of those who belong to and worship with the local congregation. As we stand looking up into the face of Christ the Redeemer, our lives are broadened and enriched and our life becomes more meaningful. The course of our life takes on a more spiritual emphasis. The text at the morning worship hour is found in Matthew 27-35. Christ was crucified at a place called Calvary. The hill outside Jerusalem was transformed by the event that changed the course of human history. The center of eter- nity is the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The cen- turies circle around the Cross. Sermon Recorded This sermon will be recorded for publication and distribution to the members and friends of the Church, At the Evening Worship Hour the second in the series of sermons which center around the Christian classic, “The Pilgrim’s Progress,” will be given. Last Sunday night a review was presented of the life of John Bunyan and the cireum- stances which lead to the writ- ing of this great book. Tomorrow night the minister will speak on the first stage of the Pilgrim’s journey which describes his condi- tion, his meeting with Evangelist, his experiences with Obstinate and Pliable. The high light in this first stage is where Christian comes to the Slough of Despond, and where he meets with Worldly Wise Man. The years have not dulled the im- pact of Bunyan’s complete under- standing of human nature in this gripping allegory. Devotional Classic ‘This great book ranks afong with the best of devotional literature ever written in the history of the Christian Church, Pilgrim’s Pro- gress has ranked along with the Holy Scripture in being a best sell- er for many generations. The Senior and Pioneer Youth Fellowships will meet tomorrow night for the participation of the Young People in the Summer Con- ference program of the Synod of Florida. The Session announced this week that a service of Communion will be held on Thursday April 15th at 8:00 p, m. The Thursday before Easter marks the institution of the Holy Supper of our Lord Jesus Christ. In connection with this “in- spirational and devotional service a special program of Choir selec- tions and solos will be presented by the members of the Church Events for the coming week are: Meeting of the Executive Board of the Women of the Church Mon- day at 8:00 p. m, in the Church Social Hall. 2 The Choir will meet for practice on Wednesday night at 8:00 p. m.
