Several $5 and $10 bills were still intact, however. as temporary spans to replace oth- ers destroyed during the war, army engineers have begun blast- ing the ice above the bridge pillars to keep the channels open. Heli- copters are taking dynamite to the “Iron Gates.” Horse-drawn sleighs bring in other supplies. Where the horses fail, soldiers tote in the necessities by ski and snowshoe. If the operation prove succes- ful and flood are held to a mini- mum, the heavy snows may prove a blessing. Yugoslavia was parched by a late summer and fall drought.
