LATEST ON HYDROGEN WEAPONS The latest report of the Atomic Energy Commission, plus the usual leaks which have occurred in the last! eighteen months, piece together a rough picture of the progress this country has been making in the field of atomic and hydrogen weapons. This sort of picture should be a guarded secret, perhaps, but all of the information forming the picture has appeared in print, and therefore it is well known to potential enemies. | It seems that the test H-bomb was exploded in late} 1952, as everyone began to suspect in 1953. There seems to be general agreement that this} country is now producing H-bombs of a far more power-| ful variety than those tested in 1952. These bombs are set for further tests later this year. The rate of pro- duction on all atomic weapons has moved forward rapid-! ly and production of such weapons is now said to depend mainly on the nod of the President. President Eisenhower himself revealed last year that the U. S. atomic stockpile was increasing in size “daily.” The arsenal of atomic weapons now in the possession of this country must reach at least four num- bers. Soon, no doubt, it will reach -five.
