Some plastic pieces can take boiling or uear boiling tem- peratures, others can’t. _ Harvard University reports $2,- 992,578 in gifts in three months. Dorothy is a hostess at the Pre- view and a number of friends are in show business. Most of them came to the after-work shift. . . which would be the equivalent of six p. m. to the average cocktail Party goer. Irene Glinos was un- able to make the date because a wire arrived telling of the critical ilfmess of her mother in Massachu- setts and Irene, although she does not leave at once, wan't in a par- ty mood naturally. Among the guests was Gene Net- tles who is leaving Tuesday. He just returned from New York re- cently and got backstage to see an old friend, the blonde danseuse who steals the show in the apple dance as “Eve” in the nwusical, “Can-Can.” He also saw Rosalind Russell in “Wonderful Town,” the musicomedy based on the play, “My Sister Eileen.” At the O-Kay housewarming, he regaled us with descriptions of her ‘success. Miss Russell, according to a long story which appeared in Time maga- zine, admits that she has no voice. “I don’t sing, I gargle,” was her reply to one critic, She’s 45 and still going strong and better than ever in her new role. JUNE WILLIAMS tells a true story. Can’t reveal the lady’s name but anyway at a big get-together, she was wecomled as a Filo- ridian. Said she, “I’m not a Flo- ridian. I’m _.a Conch!”. . .What kind of chimes are bonging in the ears-of Roger Desrosiers?. . .Ask him, and he probably won’t tell you. On the subject of ears, don’t believe that transistors in hearing aids are still noisy. I know be- cause I just got one! Sensational power. , .no vaccumm tubes to break. , .and the control of tiny energy particles bouncing off a Plate has ‘been established. No longer do transistors give a bees- in-the-hive-buzz.’ They are twice as expensive as the most costly re- gular aid, but. battery cost goes down and range and power goes up. That’s one good thing to come out of war time ‘activity. The Pa- ravox guys who- make the'new mo- del were walkie-talkie G, I.’s in World: War II and began making hearing devices after getting out of the service. BUS JINX that’s me! The patience of the bus-driver and his helpers was something to see. Fighting hordes of Keys mosquitoes, four men and the driver changed the big tire. We got in at 10:30 instead of 9:30. For once I was glad that one of the men on the bus was smoking a strong cigar. It smelled like cabbage burning but it helped sub-} due the insects which managed to invade the bus each time the door was opened. SKAAL PARTY Sunday after- toon was a pleasant change in the order of cocktail gatherings. The new drink with akvavit is some- thing like a cool daiquiri but smoother. Phil, the mixologist, can take a deep bow and you will like another sip. Among the people who enjoyed the hors d’ouevres on the house and the Skaal_concoc- tion was Mrs. Mary Besaw, Jean- ne Skewis’ mother. Also Mary Mary Louise Spottswood just back from Nassau: where 20th Century Fox movie company finally finish- ed the last scenes of ‘‘Twelve Mile Reef.” She said that Nassau was exactly as described in travel fold- ers. . .a paradise.
