Duke Entertains Group At Thrift Shop Business-Coffee Meet | Members of the board and working personnel of the Navy Whrift Shop enjoyed a business coffee on Thursday morning, May 9, in the home of Mrs. Irving T. Duke. Mrs. W. H. Truesdell, chair- man of the Thrift Shop, together with the following ladies, enjoyed this business social with Mrs. Duk Boaz, Mrs. B. E. Bradley, Mrs. W. e: Mrs. J. L. Bettinger, Mrs. T. D. . R. Burns, Mrs. W. E, Campbell, Mrs. R. M. Farrell, Mrs. J. C. Luppens, Mrs. A. O. Momm, Mrs, R. W. Reid, Mrs. C. H. Rice, Mrs. W. P. Schoeni and Mrs. J. T. Watson, Jr. Mrs. Duke welcomed, both the ew and old workers and turned the meeting over to Mrs. Truesdell, who expressed her graditude for the cooperation and help she has Teceived from all the Officers’ ‘Wives’ Clubs in the operations of the Thrift Shop. She mentioned that many have told her how much they enjoy working at the Thrift Shop ‘and stated that anyone who would like to work toward the 100 hours required for earning the Navy Relief Pin should call her for there is always work that needs to be done. Mrs. Truesdell advised that Mrs. Reid is taking over Mrs. Bradley’s work on the layettes; Mrs. Rice is the new publicity worker; and Mrs. Burns is in charge of the sew- ing.group. Mrs. Burns would like anyone who is interested in assist- ing with sewing on layettes to call ber at 2-3511, Ext. 426. The chairman -read a letter of appreciation she had received from one of the young mothers who re- cently was given.a layette for her new daughter. The point. was stressed that the of the Thrift Shop is not charity and that in the sale of merchandise the workers wish only to charge enough to cover expen- ses, and try neither to charge too much nor too little. Mrs. Truesdell asked Mrs. Brad- ley for a report on the layettes which her group has furnished new babies, thanked Mrs. Bradley for her very fine work with the group and expressed the regret of all the workers that Mrs. Bradley will soon be leaving the Key West area. Mrs, Bradley advised that during the period she and Mrs. H. Pay- son, Jr. have been in charge of layettes--August 15. to April 30--54 , layettes have been distributed, and that in September alone 11 lay- ettes were given out, The average per month has been 5.
