Of course, Lee Goodard who is to be the next Treasurer and has been the money man for quite some years is patient, capable and long suffering. He has all my blessings. ‘To Gertrude Splaine, I am going | to be so happy to turn over the two books in use, the three old tattered files, the old card index, the two boxes of stationery, the box of membership cards, the thousand or so postcards that she will be sending out this next year and the braid of artificial hair for | fake mustaches. I'll have one more whole file cabinet to myself this year. TY — THE KEY WEST CITIZEN PERSONALS Mrs. Alice Nix Installed As Head Of B.P.W. Club At Luncheon Sunday For the Key West Business and Professional Women’s Club, the luncheon Sunday at the Casa Marina was one of the important events of the club year. On the program were the installation of officers, a brief and interesting talk by a guest speaker, and awards to two out- standing speakers. In a short but inspiring cere- mony, District Director Opal Eck- hoff of Miami installed these new | officers for the ensuing year: Mrs. Alice Nix, president; Mrs. Caro- la Nettles, first vice president; Mrs, Joan Mardis, second vice pre- sident; Mrs. Thelma Porch, re- cording secretary; Mrs. Willie Mae Simmons, corresponding sec- 'retary; Mrs. .Mary Sinclair, trea- jsurer; and Mrs. Blanche Miller | (retiring president), third vice president. State President Wilhelmina Harvey presented to two membres, |Mrs. Florence Gordon and Mrs. | Catherine McManus, “Most Out- standing Member” awards. The | secret vote by members having resulted in a tie, both members were cited for their varied and ex- jtensive services to the club and |the community. Gifts of costume | Jewelry accompanied the awards. | As guest speaker, Lt. Alice Lor- jraine Santistevan of the Nurse Gert is a worker too. She hasn’t | Corps, U. S. N. She just does it for the love of it. I’m not a bit sorry to get out of this office. I’ve enjoyed it, but it’s becomes a bit of a pain in the neck too. Now I’m going to sit back and enjoy the theatre a bit, and if I can help, you're welcome! 5 ae, a Oe Haven't heard a word from the Snackery since last week when | wrote about the guys with the guns out hunting yours truly because | made remarks anent the hamburgers. Last time | was out there and had a platter containing those delicious twinburgers, just to prove of course they were big like | said, Joe wasn't there and Phil was- n't talking. Of course the main attraction at the Sigsbee Snackery these days are the big ice cream dish- es they serve these hot days. When the appetite lags, and you can’t think of a thing you'd like to eat, I'll bet you could wrap yourself around one of those big Seal Test Ice Cream Sodas, Sun- daes or Milkshakes with no trou- ble at all, and you'd have as many calories, . vitamins and minerals as you would from a lunch anyhow. in hot weather it’s always best fo eat light, you don’t need so much fuel to keep the home fires burning, and Ice Cream is the « * is, the time of year when a salad is twice as good. And as good as that, and very too if it’s served in avo- cado halves, Then if you garnish oO-rgepad with ripe olives. . . F3 4 i E if i in i i H i | took fat testing speaker. A physical thera- | pist, Lt. Santistevan is now sta- tioned at the Key West Naval Hos- | Pital. | She emphasized the great varie- ty and number of disabled persons and the need to rehabilitate them to normal capacity and indepen- dence of life. One fourth of the world’s population is disabled in some way, she stated; of these 15 millions are war veterans, and of these, two miilion are in the Uni- ted States. After a comprehensive } survey of the causes of disability) |-- from war wounds and traffic) | and industrial accidents through | diseases and congenital disability to old age -- she discussed reha- bilitation. In describing the tech- niques of physical therapy, she stated that the therapy is not a | dramatic cure but a slow way of return to normal life. She urged that the individual citizen cooper- ate with the groups trying to make the disabled self-supporting mem- bers of society and added, ‘Lend a hand, Remember, ‘There but for the grace of God, go I’.” The program also included: {n- vocation, Mrs. Mary Graham; in- troduction of guests and speakers, Mrs. Marionne Simone, general chairman; presentation of the ga- vel, Mrs. Blanche Miller; ‘ accep- tance, Mrs. Alice Nix; presenta- tion of the past president’s pin, Mrs, Marian Stark; and benedic- tion, Mrs Aloysia Van Goidtsno- ven.
