A sizeable group of fans turned out to take a look at the Lions who will open their 1953 season against Havana here next week and they ended| up rooting for a plucky Navy club, which really gave the | pros a ball game. While the locals were held to hurler Bob Hines and the veteran Gil Torres, fensive ball play never let the Lauderdales get too far | ahead. Lou Warden, who started on the mound for the Navy gave up but four hits and the visitors pushed across the three of their runs off; his slants. Virgil Bruce, who came on the scene in the fourth, scattered sev- en safeties and at times had the Lions baffled with his left-handed tosses. Big John Davis, Lion right field- er scored the first run when he was hit by a pitcher ball in the second and came in when Mauro) Tacovello singled. The visitors added two more scores in the third frame on a single by George Handy, a double by Davis and another single off the bat of Wendell Forbes.
