The selfishness within us frequently leads to false conclu- sions and that which seems good and worthy can prove just the contrary, The enemies of Jesus misunderstood him all along and when he entered Jerusalem tri- umphant and glorious, they thought he intended to establish a political kingdom and rule in temporal splendor. His popular reception on that memorable day simply proclaimed the establish- ment of a spiritual kingdom which has ruled. in the hearts of men since. The multitudes still aceept Him as their Messiah. SCHOOL LESSON Jesus is Crucified — Matthew | 27:32, 44, 54 By RALPH ROGERS In our imagination let us go to Jerusalem and walk about a bit Just to see in our mind’s eye what took place during that Pas- sion week more than nineteen hundred years ago. If we visit the Chapel of the Flagellation near the Convent of the Sisters |1¢24S to division and confusion, if Zi vi ;our skirts are not clean, but we Sen we till be told that here jare guilty as the traitor himself. | is the spot where Jesus started | on his way to the Cross, known! as the Way of Sorrow. While the actual ‘Via Dolorosa’ is probably buried under the debris of the old city and some say that the march -began on the other side of the.city, we can see the rabble |as'they follow the soldiers direct-| _ ing an innocent man to his horrid | doom. ’ For our benefit also, is offered two sites for the Golgotha, or the place of a skull both of which are doubtful. The modern church of the Holy Sepulchre is said to cover the original Calvary but this evidence can be traced no further back than to the fourth century. Most scholars believe | the. so-called ‘Garden Tomb’ or} ‘Gordon’s Calvary’ north of Her- | od’s gate is the more likely place. At least here is a rock shaped like a skull described in the Scripture which makes one feel more like this is the place. However one does not need to, travel to Jerusalem to visualize the | wonderful as well as the terrible things which occurred during this Passover week. The Scriptures simply state that he died for our sins and quotes little of the gory details, but does tell quite a little of what Jesus said and what others said.as they stood at the Cross. Many had been tortured and cruci- fied before and since, but none ap- peal to us so much as does this crucifixion of an innocent man. Others atoned for their sins, but the following cast of characters; jthe three women at the tomb, Held At County Beach The time for the colorful pa- geant to be given as an Easter sunrise service at Monroe County Beach has been set for 6:00 a.m. This pageant is called the “Eas- ter Story’? and is being sponsored by the Key West Ministerial As- sociation with Mrs. J.
