(®—Basket- ball Coach Newt Oliver of. tiny headaches. He faces a possible legal suit for breaking a contract | with Oakland City College in Indi- ana and his star player, Clarence (Bevo) Francis, has threatened to quit the team. Oakland City College Athletic Director Delbert Disler charged yesterday Oliver is running out March 4. Oliver replied he won't play Oakland City even if the col- lege sues him. “They can sue me all they want,’ he told newsmen after Rio Grande beat Lockbourne Air Force Base, 95-80, here last night. “I am going to play Wilberforce University in the Cleveland Arena on March 4, and that’s definite.” Francis, who plunked in 47 points last night to run his single- season total to 1,646 i. 33 games, in an interview over radio station WPAY, said he would quit the team unless Oliver scheduled big- ger-name teams. Rio Grande has opposed small schools this season. Oliver’ answer, to that was he was attempting to schedule games {with Seattle Univerity. and the University of Hawaii next year. Oliver said he contracted for the Oakland City College game last fall, before Rio Grande achieved national fame behind Francis’ na- tional collegiate record - breaking achievements. Later he contracted to play Wil- berforce on the same date. He said he offered to play Oakland later in the season but the offer was refused by Disler. He said. he then sent Disler a check for $106 to cover cancellation of the con- tract. Disler said yesterday be was returning the check to Oliver. Rio Grande, undefeated this year, had a $75 guarantee to play Oakland City, the same amount Rio Grande assured the team for an appearance at the Ohio school last year., “We figure it cost us $500 to make the trip to Rio Grande last year -- transportation ard taking care of 16 boys for three days,” Disler said. “All we're asking is an even shake, but. Coach Oliver has been completely © unreason- able.” Oliver said he believed Oakland City was trying to take advantage of Rio Grande’s success. Make-Believe Ends MOBILE, Ala.
