Monday night, every enemy that Dave King has in town and you can’t do a good job in his position without stepping on a few toes, was at the city hall gleefully waiting for him to get his head chopped off. Just about every ex-B-Gal ex- trant, who would all like to be back in business at the old stand, was waiting for a chance to cheer his ouster. That chance never came. David is a thick skinned indi- vidual. It appeared that the fac- tion trying to engineer his dismis- sal, when they introduced such a flimsy argument, was hoping that Mr. King would blow his top and say the “heck with it.” He didn’t. Why? Sometimes, when he gets caught in the middle of some of these elassie squabbles our current crop of commissioners get themselves involved in--it is a wonder he wants the position. Perhaps it is because he wants to see the job through--like any good workman. He has made great strides in cleaning. up the city and making it a more whole- some place in which to live. He has fought hard and his efforts are bearing fruit, He is not ab ways tactful--but who would be with the pressure he works under. And it is sad commentary, actual- ly depressing, when you realize that the only people who show up at the city commission meetings are those with a personal axe to grind or those with a mercenary Teason for being there. True, there are a few exceptions, but what is needed is an organ, iged group to go up there atvevery’ meeting and see just what is going on. Take a B-girls’ living away from here and she’ll be up there to cry on the commissioner's shoulders asking for redress---but seldom do you sée the solid citizenery keep- ing a; check on the proceeding We pad a phone conversation with Mrs. Hugh Williams Tuesday morning. Mrs. Williams was a member of the committee of Key Westers who re-wrote the ene group included former mayor W. W. 'Defaerritt, Wallace Kirke, Lee Goddaid, Col. Lewis Brinton and Fred Bberhardt. Mr. Willia indignant over what had . trans- ‘onday night. “i was proud to be a member of that committee,” she said, “I think the good citizens of Key West sfould get behind Mr. King.
