Growth Is Told At C Of C Meet An overflow meeting of the Up- per Keys Chamber of Commerce beard Dan Beard, Superintendent of Everglades National Park, on Monday night at Harry’s Savoy Restaurant, Tavernier. Many win- ter visitors from all over the coun- try were present as guests. Beard told the history, develop- ment and difficuities encountered in establishing the Park and des- cribed methods being used to pro- tect wild life in this area. Colored movies of Park activities were shown. Beard ‘stated that 168,000 people visited the Park last year and with present. improvements and interest felt that this number will be greatly increasd each year. At this meeting Captain Bill Smith of Islamorada presented a * gavel to President Martin Dewey. It is made of mahogany from Low- er Matecumbe, the south boundry line of the organization, and made- fra wood from Upper Key Largo, the northern boundry line. Plans were announced for the coming Birthday Dance to be held on February 20 at Plantation Yacht Harbor. The Buffy-Dee Quin- tet, currently playing at the Surf Club and well-known in this area will supply the music. Vocalist Doris Altier will be featured. This is a Beachcomber Dance with door prizes and buffet. Tickets are available through Jerry Ellis, Chairman. Awards Made At Boy Scout Court Of Honor Gary Maris. of. TOMORROW'S TIDES (Naval Base) Legion Lists Entertainment | Plans For Feb. | The entertainment committee of | the American Legion Post today released some of the entertain- | ment scheduled for the members | of the Post and their families. {| On Friday, the {3th of February, at 9 p. m. the public is invited to attend the gala St. Valentine Dance. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy a well spent evening of fun. On Sunday, the 22nd of February, all 1953 members of the American Legion, Arthur Sawyer Post No. 28, | and their families will be given | a spaghetti dinner at 3 in the after- noon. At this time special movies will be shown to persons in attend- ance upon completion of the dinner. On Wednesday, the 25th of Feb- ruary, the Post will have its re- gular second meeting of the moth with an impressive initiation cere- mony for all incoming members. | This’ meeting has been designated as “Tavernier Night” in honor of | the. members of the American | Legion Post located in Islamorada, | who have been invited to attend.
