Gibson To Report To West Pacific Will Be Chief Staff Officer, Fleet Training Group, Japan Commander Edward I. Gibson, USN, is being detached from duty as Project Coordinator on the staff of Surface Anti-Sub- |marine Development Detachment at Key West with orders to re- port to Commander, Fleet Train- ing Group, West Pacific in Japan for duty as Chief Staff Officer. Cdr. Gibson is a graduate of the U.S. Nayal Academy, - class of 1939. He served as Command- ing Officer of the destroyers USS Lavallette DD448 and USS Mc- Cord DD534. In addition, he serv- |ed as Commanding officer of the USS Burdo APD 133, as opera- tions officer of the heavy cruiser USS Albany CA123 and was an instructor two years at the |NROTC Unit, Tulane University, New Orleans, La. During the; !war Cdr. Gibson participated in| North Atlantic convoy escort op-| erations and took part in major Pacific campaigns of 1944 and 1945. : Before entering Academy, he had one Naval Reserve service. After! graduation he served on the} heavy cruiser USS Tuscaloosa | CA37, the destroyers USS Badger DD126 and USS Dortch DD670. Cdr. Gibson is authorized to| wear the Bronze Star Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Area Medal with one star, the} Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal with} nine stars, the Philippine Libera- tion Medal with two stars, the) Occupation Medal and World War} II Victory Medal. Shepherd private pilot who is not satisfied with conditions at Meacham Field on night flying and disciplining on buzz jobs over the Keys wrote the following let- ter to the CAA in Atlanta, William M. Robertson, Regional Adminis- trator, with a copy to The Citizen: Dear Mr. Robertson; Please find enclosed an article from The Key West Citizen, dated Wednesday, February 4, 1953. 1. would appreciate some information regarding this.
