On Friday | night they eked out a 57-54 win over the Conchs. They gained the win Sat- urday conds of play when John Wood, Pompano center cut loose with a long set shot that split the meshes to pro- vide the winning margin. Key West fought like demons throughout the contest to hold the taller visitors to a virtual tie. Foul shooting was the order of the even- ing and the Conchs inability to click in this department may well have cost them the verdict. Key West hit for just 17 out of 32 tries from the foul line. Sub Group . Gains Win In Bowling Tourney The Key West Submarine Re- fitting and Training Group topped the New London, Conn. Submarine Base Afloat keglers in the finale of the Submarine Force bowling urnament at the Naval Station Alleys Friday afternoon. Key West went into the finals needing only one point to clinch the title and after losing the first game to the Afloat, the locals came back to win the second and the tournament. Final results were Key West - 5 points; New Longon Afloat - 4 points; and New London Ashore - |3 points. The outstanding bowler of the tournament was Charlie Gilder- sleeve, seaman apprentice of the Afloat team, who had games of , | 162, 152, 226, 202, 154 and 257, giv- ; |ing him an average of 192 for the _ |tournament.
