Conch Cagers Face Pompano Courtmen In Two Tilts Here xk * 5 en Geek x ke Spittim’ Image Cops Win | a * * SEEK REVENGE FOR EARLY SEASON LOSS TO VISITING FIVE Coach Win Jones’ Key West High School cage squad will have their work cut out for them over the weekend when they tackle the crack Pompano court-} men in two battles tonight | and Saturday on the high} school hardwood. The Conchs will be out to} avenge an early season de- feat at the hands of the Pompano club and a pair of red hot battles are cards for these two tilts. Currently riding on the | crest of a six game winning streak, Key West will go all out to stay in the win column. In the earlier meeting between the two clubs, Key West held the taller, more experienced club to a draw at the halftime but they began to weaken in the third period and came out on the short end of a 52-35 score. It was the Pompano height that did the trick. They boast a pair} of performers that go well over the six foot mark in Jack Mash- burn (6'3”) and Scooter Buck (6° 3”). The locals are going to be hard ‘put to control the rebound situation in the tilts with these two on the court. The Conchs have been working hard: in. drills throughout the week in an effort to get their fast break tuned up for these im- portant contests. They have de- vised a nifty. zone defense as well, which they hope will stop the visitors. The Conchs, who started the sea- son slowly have been coming along well.in past contests. The two with ‘Pompano afe the starfing points for a grueling seven game home stand which will see the locals meeting such teams as the Ken- tucky Military Academy, Coral Gables, Miami Tech and South Broward. Jones is expected to rely on his regular starters including Glynn Archer and John Walston at the forwards, Bob Sawyer at center ‘and Stu Logun and Jimmy Solo- mon at the guard positions. Something new will be offered in \tonight's Kennel Club program when, instead of one feature race, both the ninth and the tenth races |will have something special to of- fer racing fans. The ninth will put the top dogs at the track in a 5-16 mile fea- ture, while the starting field in the tenth will be made up of all young }maiden greyhounds who received their initial official starts in their young lives here at the Key West Kennel Club. There may be a fu- ture World Champion among these | young speedsters since they are all red from former champions. Mort, a young greyhound owned by a veteran breeder R. K.
