Dep t. Of Navy Sennet Men Upped, Is Cited For Suggestions The Under Secretary of the Navy, Francis P. Whitebair, announces that the Department of the Navy has been awarded the 1952 National Association of Suggestion Systems Achievement Award for Outstand- ing Promotion of Suggestions. With this - accomplishment, Navy be- comes the first Government agency to win this award and enjoys the distinction of being the only Gov- ernment agency which has won both the NASS Participation Award and the NASS Promotion Award. Each year the Association pre- sents awards on a national basis to member companies and Govern- ment agencies for outstanding achievement in increasing em- ployee participation in, and for out- standing promotion of, their sug- gestion programs. Last year, and also in 1949, the Navy won the “Participation Award” in compe- tition with other Government agen- cies. In winning the 1952 “Promo- tion Award,” however, Navy was adjudged as having the best sug- gestion in promotional campaign among all competitors---both in In- dustry and Government. Perhaps the best measure of the effective- ness of this promotion campaign is reflected in the results achieved. During the calendar year 1951-- the year considered in the NASS competition...Navy received 67,805 suggestions, granted awards in the amount of $456,980, and realized net savings of $11,587,967 from the Program. The winning of this Achievement Award by Navy is a tribute to the splendid work of Awards Program administrators whose promotional efforts made such valuable contri- butions to our total effort, and to management officials at all levels whose support of the Program ean this accomplishment Possi- le. Most important of all, it is a direct tribute to the thousands of Navy employées who responded to the Program so enthusiastically by offering their ideas for improving the operation of the Naval Estab- lishment. Through their efforts, the Navy will realize an annual sav- ing of more than eleven and one- STRONG ARM BRAND OFFER Coffee Mill at ALL GROCER: bese Crew Augmented In a special ceremony aboard the Key West-based submarine Sennet, seven men received ad- vancements in rating, while an- other received his dolphin qualify- ing insignia.
