SOCIETY — PERSONALS — NEWS OF INTEREST TO WOMEN . All-Hands Christmas Celebration Features Mammoth 85 Pound Cake A combined Christmas party velopment Station, Surface Ordnance Unit and all ve day, December 12. The mov Station was the scene of the gal Captain and Mrs. Momm, Commanding Officer SurAsDevDet, and Commander and Mrs. Donald G. Horsman, Of- ficer in. Charge of OpDevSta, were are of among the distinguished guests) present, together with many of the officers, enlisted personnel their wives. An excellent buffet supper was | prepared and served by the cooks from OpDevSta Galley, under thé direction of James F. Caldwell, CB1, USN. The elaborate supper consisted of turkey, ham, chicken, salads, baked beans and fresh fruits. Center of attraction was the | eightyfive pound Christmas cake, baked and decorated by Norman | J. Cashman, CSSN of SurAsDev | ., Det. Sid Silvers and his orchestra pro vided the dance music and enter tainment for the festive gatheri : ° Maid’s Night Out By RAYMER “ANNE OF THE INDIES,” at the SAN CARLOS THEATRE. Here’s a saga, in breath-taking color, of the Spanish Main which has a double romance and a uni que: ending. The heroine doesn’t get her man! Nevertheless, it is a satisfactory finale. The story is | about a woman pirate, Ann Pro- vidence, who really did live back | in the 18th Century when Key West, incidentally, was a pirate hang- out. Jean Peters, pert-nosed and tousel-headed has the role of the | swashbuckling girl promoted in the privateer racket by Blackbeard, one of the most brutal pirates of all time. This role is done with evident | relish by Thomas Gomez all deck- ed out in a long plaited bead and brocaded coats. Herbert Marshall, veteran actor, has the part of a/ ship’s doctor who tries to be a counsellor for the madcap woman of the seas, and succeeds, up to a point. . .sword’s point. He is completely believable as the rum- swizzling philosopher who had seen better days. Louis Jourdan is cast as the man in the lady pirate’s life. Unfor- tunately for her, he has a wife, a | slim aristocratic lady played by | Debra Paget. The triangle situa- | tion is diff tt than most and | you'll find *yOurself hissing Jour- | tough Anne. There is much lay, fig ght- | ing on thé high ee seraps | in low dives. The-sigh.
