Saturday, October 25, 1952 THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Page $ $2,000,000 Rosen Resort To Have Yachtels, Marina Roosevelt Blvd. *— $100,000 Restaurant To Go Up On Roosevelt Blvd. Devt. Building To Begin Soon Chas. Rosen Says By SUSAN MCAVOY Real Estate Editor A yacht marina and yachtels for seagoing visitors will be the brand new feature of the $2,000,000 Roose- velt bouleyard luxury development being established by youthful Charles Rosen, Chuck’s Sandwich chain founder and owner. Rosen told me last week that in dredging the waters of the 20 acre tract he has leased and op- tioned for needed mar! fill, he will make a channel sufficiently deep for good sized yachts. More than that the enterprising businessman plans to include all facilities for cruising yachtsmen in the 20 acre development. Modelling the yacht harbor after the Pompano beach yacht basin and yachtel, Rosen plans to have his 100 unit yachtel fitted for voy- gers on the sea as well as mo- torists on the highway. $100,000 RESTAURANT First permit for the development will be for the $100,000 restaurant being built by Rosen. That permit expected this week is the signal for the luxurious yet useful com- munity to start, At the corner of Sigsbee park road and the boule- vard, Rosen has only 100 by 400 feet of the area filled at present. ‘This hts done by owners Claude Gandolfo and Howard Wilson who have leased that and five acres of bay bottom land to the Miami entrepreneur for 99 years. Rosen has an option on 15 more acres. The Rosen development will ri- wal anything on the Keys in its facilities for the traveller. Yachts- men wo have consistently passed by Key West on their cruises be- cause of a lack of facilities will tow make the Southernmost city @ regular stop. The yachting trade now goes to Marathon which has magnificent docking and other facilities for yachts. It will be able to stop at the brand new marina, when Ro- | sen finishes his construction. YACHT MARINA PLANNED A marina includes facilities for supplying a yacht with gas, fresh water near, and power outlets, as well as protected slips for tying | up boats in foul as well as fair weather, On Florida’s East coast today, Bahia Mar at Fort Lauderdale and Pompano’s yachtel provide the taurant “Chuck's.” convenience, The Rosen development will in- | clude not only a restaurant and 100 unit motel, but a cabana club and a swimming pool, package kind of model that Rosen is look- | ing toward, These resort basins include marine supply stores,: gro- eery stores and showers for yachts- men who prefer to live on their | store and cocktail lounge. KEY WEST HARBOR PLANS The City of Key West has been trying for years to get started on | building a municipal dock out in 1 City owned Garrison Bight. Yacht club, a group of prominent, chiefly non- yacht owning men, meets Satur- days and has made some progress toward planning a yacht club. They have filled an area out near Hilton Haven and near the city’s | docks, Financing seems to be the bot- tleneck holding up the acceptance ‘of drawings and the green light on building. There has been talk for years of a Key West Yacht club built and maintained by Key Westers, remains in the state of discussion according to members. The only headquarters of these yachtsmen in past years has been the magni- ficent old Curry and Sons ljand- mark on the waterfront, Garrison Bight which could be a yacht harbor is at present occu chiefly by charter boats There are no slips with protection from weather, facilities for gassing up and watering, and power to service visiting or local yachts- men, Two Key West boat owners Ed. win Trevor and Dr. J.
