“Watch And Prey” Is Sunday Theme For Reverend Rogers Special Day Set * For Children In \Guest Preacher Church School | (4 At First Church | Parents and friends are invited to visit the day Scl at the First Pres’ :ian Church, White | at. Washingt.n Street, Sunday morning at ten o'clock. This will | be a special day for the children! since it is “ally and Promotion| Day. Some fifty children will be| Promoted from one department to/| another and all the children will be| advanced acc. ‘ding to their age. | Mr. Archer has arranged to give those promoted a certificate show. | ing their advancement. In additi_a te the special occa-| sion of entertaining parents, a set of pictures will be shown to the Primary and Adult Depart -nts| showing the advancement of Bible) translation to be available 30 Sep- | tember. This is one Sunday w hen} the children will want to be on time | to see this special feature. The pastor, the Rev. Ralph Ro- | gers, will continue his series of| sermons on Prayer. His subject will be the admonition of Jesus io} his disciples when he urged them} to “Watch and Pray,” that ye en- ter not into temptation. Satan is} subtle using « »ry device imagi-; nable to wedge into the work of the! Kingdom of God. Jesus knew the weakness of the disciples, as he knows the weakness of the flesh in these latter days, and he warned | them against entering into tempta- tion, that of denying their Master and Friend. Modern society is so complicated that it makes life difficult to dis-| cern the real pitfalls and dangers of daily temptations. The early shepherds were ever elert for any threatening danger. Any unusual stir among the flock av--7d the good shepherd who protected his lambs from roving wolves. In these | modern days there seems to be an| abundance of wolves in sheep’s clothing and the patriot as well as the Christian must exercise an eternal vigilance to be on guard against dangers which seem so in- nocent. Words and actions are often con- fusing and misieading. One can think of a group of people who are eternally crying peace while keep- ing the dagger poised to strike. One reads most clearly of a group pastorate at the Ley Memoria “A New Look At An Old Book” Is Sun. Topic Rev. Meeker Has Guests From Former Home In Indiana DR. Every church and every commu- nity is infested with its Judases and so the Kingdom of God is retard- ed immeasurably. The Christian must be on guard and watchful lest he fall into such temptation. There is only one sure way of detecting danger, and that is by prayer. Jesus thus urged his disci- ples to watch and pray, that thru the instrument of prayer they might distinguish good from evil. Prayer is the ‘--olvent which re- moves the haze and tarnish of shady dealing and actions By watching and praying the Judases of our community can eas- ily be dected, and the apathy and indifference to spiritual dangers and pitfalls can readily be appre- hended and labeled, thus protect ing the gullible and careless from eternal destruction For the prelude the organist will play Traumerei—Schumann and the Offertory “Bless This House’ by Brahe will be a violin solo by Mr. Ben Sweeting. RENT FORUM (These questions were selected from those often asked of the local rent office. If you have a question about the rent stabalization pro- gram, address it to: Area Rent Off- ice, 216 Federal Building, Key West Florida.) Q. My landlord charges $2.50 ex- tra per month if I do not pay my rent by the 10th of the month. Is this charge legal? A. In order for your landlord to charge this extra amount he must have had a contract on the date determining the maximum rent which expressly provided for al- ternate rents, i.e., if the rent was paid on or before the 10th of the month it would be, say $60.00, and if it was paid later than that it would be $62.50. Q. My landlord furnishes my heat and utilities as part of our rental agreement. Recently I bought several electric space heat- ers because last Winter the heat my landlord furnished was not sufficient for me. Now my land- lord says he is going to your of- fice and ask that my rent be in- creased because the heaters will use much more electricity. Can he do this? A. If your use of electric space heaters substantially increases the amount of electricity your lord is required to furnish, he can petition for and receive an in- crease in maximum rent to cover the increased expense. However, if the amount of heat he furnishes is not sufficient to heat your unit normally in the Winter you can | ask for a decrease in maximum rent because of decreased serv- ices. If, on the other hand, the heat is insufficient for you merely because you desire or need high- er than normal temperature, your | petition for decrease in the maxi- mum rent would be denied. Q. A tenant in a house I own, recently installed a television an | tenna on the roof without my per- mission and, in doing so caused considerable damage to the roof. It is now necessary that I have the roof repaired at considerable expense. Can I charge this to the tenant can I evict this ten- ant for his unauthorized action that resulted in damage to my property? A. Your recourse for damage to your property by the tenant would be, as NR has always been, under local law. If the tenant is violat- ing his rental agreement in the use of the roof you can give him written notice to cause fa eoX6z written notice to cease the viola- tion and if he fails to do so you can then proceed to eviction upon giving him 10 days written notice to move. However, if you retain your tenant and permit him the use of the roof for his antenna you may petition the rent director | for an increase in the maximum !| rent, and an appropriate increase will be allowed you, The ancient Roman roads usu ally were too narrow for modern use, especially where they passed through archways, and grades of ten were far steeper than those permitted on modern roads. Because it's a vote against the menace of profes- sional gambling. “There is no honest professional gambling.” says Roger William Riis. Many say: “People will gamble, no matter what.” This is mighty loose talk. In reply, Robert Laxalt in an article in the Sept. 20th Saturday Evening Post says, “The answer is a short-sighted one. True, the inveterate gambler will gamble. In locales where gambling is not legal, he is the man who knows where every floating crap game can be found. The argument does not apply to the man of normal appetite, IF THERE IS NO GAMBLING ABOUT, HE SIMPLY DOES NOT GAMBLE” First Methodist (Old Stone) Church J.
