He says “I came the inside route because “Prudence is the petter part of va- lor’.” Tf you want an explanation of that phrase, take a look at thr ac- companying news picture and see the pint-size boat in which he made the trip. Rosinski is a regular visitor to the Florida Keys. He owns a thirty foot boat, “‘The Monsoon”, that he built himself and has brought to Key West several times. And on every trip in the past, he felt a compelling urge to explore the bays and backwaters of the many small islands that he passed! Last week in Miami, he decided to do something about this desire. CONVERTS DINGHY The ‘“‘Monsoon” carrys a 7 1-2» metal dinghy. “Skippy” figured that this flatbottomed craft would be just the thing to get over shai- ow waters and reefs. He rigged it up with a splashboard tarpaulin | covering the bow and long enough to stretch back over the stern, | clipped on a 1 1-4 HP outboard mo- | tor, stowed away enough gas and provisions to last a few days, and headed for Key West, 180 land miles away. “The trip was uneventful,” Ro- sinski said. “‘Of course, a few lit- tle unscheduled things happened. My gas stove caught fire, I ran aground on a bar that had all of the charteristics of quicksand, thought I was finished that time, | but all in all, it was a swell trip|_ and I've enjoyed it.” § STATISTICS pee ned ried, It was necessary to restock this supply enoute. Crawfish grains and fishing tackle heped replenish the small amount of canned food that Rosin- ski was able to stow aboard. “Most of the boats that I passed didn’t even see me because I was | such a little speck in the water,” “SKIPPY” ROSINSKI wore the day voyage from Miami in the discomfort Rosinski says the tri Raninahi And Dinghy EIT LE Citizen Stafi rnow seat of his pants out on an eight above small craft.
