Must seil, thie Tuesday, April 15, 1952 ‘THE KEY WEST CITIZEN Citizen Staff Photo ALBERT E. “TED” YACKEE, climbed aboard his Greyhound bus for a last run yesterday at 11 a. m. Twenty-five years of faithful service ended for Ted Yackee as he pulled into Miami's Greyhound terminal yesterday afternoon. Ted is being pen- sioned off as he reaches the age when the powers that be, say that he is too old to drive “OVER THE ROAD” anymore, Florida Greyhound’s first bus to cross the Overseas Highway was piloted by none other than Driver Yackee, That trip was made in 1937 and Ted proudly displays a silver key to Key,West that city fathers presented to him in honor of that occasion. The majority of Ted’s years have been spent on the Miami- Key West run. Ted, himself, tells us that only once has he left his run to Key West and that was only for a period of six months. “I was ‘happy to get back among friends,” was his re- mark when questioned about the brief stay on another run, An estimated one and one-half million miles have been “Over the road” since first he rolled his bus out of the station, Thirteen years have passed without an accident and Ted is justificably proud of his record. Asked about hig plans, now that he is retiring we were told, “I’m not retiring. I’m too old to drive anymore but I’m stil} too young to draw social security. Guess I'll have to hunt an- other job to last me for another five years as I am now but Uncle Sam says that I must be sixty-five before I can draw my social security pension.” “Greyhound says that I must stop running at the young age of 60 so .., I'm stopping.” Coming Events ¢- | TUESDAY, APRIL 15— Handicraft special interest group, Officers’ Wives’, Qtrs.
