S..Murray, Commander of Submarines, Atlantic Fleet, and his staff were honored at one of the liveliest and most enjoyable naval social functions in Key West at a party given by SubRon Four officers Wednesday evening at Fort Taylor. Over 200 officers, their Wives and guests attended the affair which began with cocktails and a sumptious buffet supper served from flower- bedecked tables from 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. ~A-minstrel show followed iny. which SubRon ‘Four officers} proved that some play and not ali work makes Jack Tar a happy man. Guests were tagged at the door with clever name cards of blackface troubador cutout de- In:the reception line. were Rear | Admiral Murray, Capt. and Mrs. J-W. Davis and Capt. and Mrs. A. H. Dropp. The men wore in- | ol clothes. Mrs. Davis was gowned in soft yellow with a yellow and red-orange orchid corsage .Mrs. Dropp wore a white gown touched with crimson by a red rose shoulder corsage. Doe Byrnes, I. D. Putnam, Jack Williams, Charles Beck, Frank Shamer and specialists Joe Vieh- man, Johnhy Jones, Hank Vaughan, Bill Wood ‘and Jerry Brenner. A quartet in barbershop harmony, with Viele, Vaughan, Wood and Brenner brought solid applause. Banjo with surprise boing was strummed by Jones. Viehman.exhibited a truly pro- fessionaj touch with his silver- tone singing and was called back for encores. One of the heartiest laughs came during the parody on April when the real rain began again while the words were being sung. (See Conch Chowder on Saturday for the version).
