Your guess is as good as anybody else’s guess about the outcome of the primary next Tuesday. With a regis- tration of 6,854, the largest in the city’s history, the split- up-of the vote is likely to cause many surprises. The registration includes many Navy personnel and many others who have not voted here before. Anybody who watched the new registration from day to day saw that the persons who qualified included almost as large a number of newcomers as Key Westers, who were born | hege or have resided here many years. How will the Navy pefsonnel and newcomers vote? That question can be an- swgred correctly by only themselves. Candidates are aware of this element of new voting | stréngth but, though they are striving to reach it to ex- plain their attitude on city affairs, they are also alive to the importance of the home vote, which comprises a ma- jority. Before primary day, candidates will make speech- es to colored voters, who have organized a committee to | arrange for a rally, and to white voters, under the aus- pices of the local Jaycees. > At no time in the history of Key West has it been as important for voters to cast their ballots conscientiously as It is at present. Reason for that is evident to everybody j who resides here. Key West is growing now as it has "fever grown before and, with the added impetus to its growth by ‘the early removal of tolls on the Overseas Highway bridges, every man and woman who goes to the polls next Tuesday should set aside purely personal feelings and vote for the three men they believe have the ability and resourcefulness to conserve and promote the interests of Key West. : The voters will choose six candidates next Tuesday forthe three vacancies on the City Commission. The final deéision will be made at the election to be held on Tues- day, November 18. The campaign has livened this week but it will be livelier beginning next Wednesday, with on- ly six days to go before election day. : Candidates, if they keep on the hop, skip and jump during that time, can personally see only a comparatively few of the voters. They can be reached in bulk through The Citizen, which affords an opportunity to the candi- | dates, as fair to one as to the other, to appeal to the vot- cially does the Committee thank ers for support. : The Citizen has no favorites. Its only hope is that three able men will be elected Commission rs, * Diet is a question of good food, properly prepared and g. f. p. p. is a matter of good health. , The ancient writers said some smart things, if you have ever taken the time to read what they wrote.
