BOOK WORK, / OF GOOD TIME. a FLORIDA NEARING TELEPHONE MARK . FLORIDA'S 470,000th TELEPHONE: Manager J. P. Evans has just presented it to Mrs. O. H. Thornburg following installation in her home at 339 S. Palmetto Avenue, Daytona Beach. Little Miss., Frances Thornburg appeared to think well of having a telephone, too. Bell telephones serving Florida are approfhing the half-million mark. The 470,000th was installed a few days ago in “the home of Mr. and Mrs. burg in Daytona Beach. That telephone will mean a lot to the Thornburgs and it will mean a lot to their friends who want to with them. That's always true when a new tele- phone goes in: there ‘are other people whose telephones, become more. useful and valuable because ‘another friend, relative or business associate has gotten one. Yes, it’s the other fellow’s telephone that makes yours valuable, and there are now twice as many Floridians with telephones as there were just five years ago. 75 YEARS SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE O. H. Thorn- keep in touch plant facilities. It took 52 years for Florida to reach her first 100,000 télephones, 8 years to get her second, 4 years for the third and 2 for the fourth. That gives you an idea of Flor- ida’s growth and its demand for telephones. To provide for the 215,735 telephones added during the past 5 years, it was nec- essary to construct 53 new buildings and additions, and to install vast quantities of central office equipment, cable and other In spite of those 5 record years of ex- pansion there’s still a big telephone job to. do in Florida. It took $105,000,000 worth of éxpansion during the past five years, and it will take a financially sound Tele- phone Company to continue contributing its fyll share to the growth and progress of the State.
