While the nattily-dressed New Yorker wzited for Senate investi- gators to call him, Police Chief Edward J. Allen, Jr., of Youngs- town, Ohio, was advising the Senators on gambling conditions. * Allen put on a big drive against bookies in Youngstown a couple of years ago and, he says, his men closed 15 gambling joints. Referring to Costello, the Youngs- town Police Chief called him nothing more than a glorified goon. He said: “If it weren’t for corrupt poli- ticians, Costello wouldn't be in the position he is in today.” It was then that the Senators called in the New Yorker who has the name for being the king pin of the gambling warld. They time betting, and Costello an- swered in a heavy accent: “At the present time I'm not qualified.” “Why?” Asked one of the Senators. “Maybe,” countered Costello, “I don’t know about it.” The WEATHERMAN Says Key West and Vicinity: Partly cloudy ,today, tonight and Friday with widely scattered thunder- showers in the area.
