After 2 finished I asked myself, good purpose would the tfip to Cuba under shark propul- gion serve? Why does he want to Make this trip, that is to say the least risky? And, finally, what lasting value would it be to the City of Key West from a publicity standpoint? Tn the movie last night, in Which Chotteau played the lead- ing role, the commentator stated that fame, Chotteau soon found @ut, was fleeting. His. past accom- ments prove this, even ih he swim distances that would be no mean feat. the public soon forgot. So Why run the risk of riding a shark to Havana? ‘ iim any event it is up to the man himself, if he wants to at- tempt the trip, more power to tim, but T'H take my fish at the Other end of a rod and reel—it’s safer Fishing Tournament Under Way ! The fishing tournament is offi @ally under way, as of last Wed- Meslay, and do you know what Happened—no fish. Last week and the week before there were wlenty, in spite of rough weather, but the first day of the tourna- ment there was not a single en- try. Yesterday was a little better with an entry of a Crevalle Jack from Captain Jakie Key’s fishing party, and a kingfish from Cap- tain John West's boat. The mames of the entrants had not heen received by me at the time this was written but they will be published. Channel Hazardous For the benefit of those who @&y not know it, the channel leading to the charter boatmen’s dock was dug under contract for them, and the money for it wa paid from the charter boatmen’s Weasury, a treasury none too large to begin with. But, at least @ Channel was made whereby beats could come up to the boule- Vard and dock. Needless to say, wi : Tip Pe Chotteau Movie j 1 P-watched the Paul Chotteau ot aan nnnsercennsencasssssssssassasaees ‘the boatmen themselves know the channel is not wide enough, and Thursday only brought the truth home more forcifully. } To bring their boats through the channel, the fishermen are forced to hug.a bank of ‘marl at the entrance, creep around a channel marker and then swing into their berths at the boulevard. At low tide the trip through is even more hazardous ,as Thurs- day’s incident showed when Cap- tain John West piled up on a mud-bank. | The channel should be widened to eliminate the navigational hazards that are now prevail from a_ restricted entrance, strong winds, and low tides. Besides, if Captain West had not been so late getting in, I might have had some kingfish for dinner, darn it. Aside To The Tournament Commit This is to Newell Pinder, and Lino Castro, members of the Jay- cee Fishing Tournament Com- mittee who are serving their first year at the boulevard, gathering entries for the Tournament. Don’t feel discouraged about the lack of entries, the weather's “agin us” at present, and it looks as though it will never let up. But, be patient, we are bound to have fisning weather, when Uncle Harry returns for his March visit. The winds are prob- ably caused by members of Con- gress now in session in Washing- ton. j “You Make Us Feel At Home” Must be the comment of many of the guests at the Hibiscus Mo- tel, operated by Margaret and | Harry Mitchell. j .
