Mr. Meyers seems. to be anyexcellent writer ‘ on horticulture, not only from the | scientific view, but from _ thi iew as‘ well, and I a sure that during the coming tour- ist. season his articles -will be widely read by visitors to our island city and.I am sure that these articles will cause them to leave with a great appreciation for. the vegetation in Key West and in awe of the method’ by which Mr. Meyers will prgsent it to them. Looking forward to the next article. I remain, Sincerely yours, WM. L. DAVIS, sR, Key. Not oné day ofjrain throughout 10,000 miles! ‘We travelled mostly in mod- ern streamliners on the railroads, ' but there were short stetches where we had to ride “mixed” trains, compo; of ancient pas- senger coaches and freight cars ambling along at unhurried pace. Ailsogwe enjoyed some very fast electric streamliners,. some de- lightful Interurbans and a short hop in the rollicking cab ‘of a steam freight locomotive. On another stretch, we enjoyed sharing the.cab of an _ elestric locomotive with the Motorman, the Conductor, five other women passengers, a pet cat and a squealing pig—all sandwiched in with several bags of U. S, Mail. Outside it was below freez- ing, but we were quite comfort- able, thanks to electric heat. That was nothing—compared to some of our travel modes our journey into the Pacific North- west. These included a 68 degree Funicular railway, a diminutive tug-boat and a swing across a ro; ig torrent on an aerial tramway. The quaintest experi- ence of all was a quict, slow, peaceful juant in a real Canal Boat, towed: by mules along America’s first’ transportation tT heovitn po | Passenger List Passengers leaving for Havana, ! That was from Cabin John to Georgetown. We really had a chance to admire the Pot- omac scenery on that trip of 9 miles in 2 hours. We agree that travel by such means is indeed pleasant, - in contrast to the frantic, headlong dash of today.
