Asked about the number of | bandsmen he would have at high; (school this year, Dillon said the ‘size of the band would be regu- j lated largely by the place where the band would practice. Then O’Bryant spoke up. “I think that next month we are going to use the Naval Com- missary. I have talked the mat- ; ter over with Captain C. C. Adell, ‘commander of the Naval Base, fand I find that maybe we can use the commissary building. | “There is ample room in the building for a band of 100 or }more to practice. The following explanation should prove it: A gallon of bottled gas weighs 4.24 pounds. In a 100-pound cylinder there are 23.6 gallons. There are 91,600 heat units in a gallon of propane gas. Multi- plying 91,600 by 23.6 we get 2,161,760 heat units. There are 750 heat units in every cu. ft. of piped gas. Dividing 750 into 2,161,760 we get 2,882, the num- ber of cu. {t. of piped gas in one 100-pound cylinder cf boitled gas. There are 2519 heat units in a cu. ft. of bottled gas. Dividing 2519 into 2,161,760, the number of heat units in a 100-pound cylinder, we find there are 858 cu. ft. So, if you are told that bottled gas is over three times as hot as piped gas, by the same token piped gas has over three times as many cu. ft. for the same number of heat units found in a 100-pound cylin- der. So, whether you use 750 B.T.U. gas or 2519 B.T.U. i gas, you can only get as many heat units as is contained in a given amount. For this amount of piped gas you pay at our rates on cooking and water heating $8.53, and if you were using say a 4 ft. refrigerator your bill would be only $7.85 for this amount of gas. When you take into consideration that an appliance that is manufactured to use another type gas is converted to use bottled gas, it loses a great deal of its efficiency and in some instances more than 50%, and some, when converted, are not safe to use. You would, if you used converted appliances, have to buy bottled gas for a lot less than we sell it to you through our system to get as much for your money, and you still would not enjoy the conveniences of piped gas. If it were to our customers’ and prospective customers’— who live on our lines—best interests we would recommend bottled gas—as we sell ii—but it definitely is not. To those of you who live beyond our mains, bottled gas in the only thing to use. and we would be pleased to quote you prices on the installation and appliances.
