The Entertainment Committee Chairman, Bob Pol- lock, stated that the committee, eonsisting of himself, Neve Ar- fhayor and Lawrence Dion, was informed by those present that it Was one of the best programs to date. The audience was _ enthralled by the lovely voice of Mrs. Dick Williams, who accompanied her- self most expertly on her _— accordian. Mrs. Williams, traveling troubador, who hits been blind since birth, most generously donated her services to the Lions Club because of its outstanding work in aiding the blind. ~Mrs. Maleka Brown, wife of Lt. E. N. Brown, Boca Chica, im- mediately captured the attention of her listeners with her win- some charm and extremely grace- ful dancing. Her discourse on the @ulture and customs of ‘Hawaii, cher native island, was most in- téresting and enlightesing. Her interpretation of the Hulu, the traditional dance of Hawaii, was superb. Mrs. Brown stated that ‘she has just discovered that al plant, which is widely used in Hawaii for utilitarian purposes, many of which she described, is also found here in Key West and its use will be introduced to her dancing classes, as one of its uses is in the making of the tradition- al Hulu skirt. ~The speaker of the evening was Colonel Bryan Houston, Director of Information for ECA, and former executive vice-president of Pepsi-Cola of New York City. ECA is the administrative body Exihibit Of Paintings Of William — abroad for the Marshall Plan and Colonel Houston gave a vivid and interesting picture of the Euro- pean situation with regard to the Marshall Plan. He stated that one of the main obstacles to be overcome was the unimaginable physical destruction of these countries by the last war. That jit had wiped out Hope in the breasts of these afflicted people, making them easy prey for com- munistic and fascist doctrines. However, since these people have seen and begun to feel the ef- fectiveness of the Marshall Plan, | their hope is slowly being re- vived and their instinct to com- bat communism aroused. Colonel Houston further stated that, while the monies being appropriated for the Marshall Plan seem exor- bitant to this country during peace time, they are a mere baga- telle to the money that would be spent during a war, the aversion of which is the prime purpose of the Marshall Plan. Colonel Hous- ton also explained that the sal- vation of Europe lies in its j ability to reestablish pane and international commerce Sorell can be made possible Ba: through the assistance and co- operation of the United States.
