The Charity Carnival is being put on through the joint efforts of all Naval activities in the Key West area, ashore and afloat. A great deal of effort is being ex- pended on the part of many offi- cers and men to make the Carni- val a success. Raffle tickets for the raffling ; ; off of a new 1949 automobile are Officers in the Key West area Quartermaster Z. F. SPIER who is stationed at the U. S. Naval Station. These raffle tickets have been on sale for the past month. Chief Spier reports extremely | good sales of these tickets and has expressed his appreciation to |the various Chief Petty Officers |and merchants who have been ! active in selling the tickets. It is expected that the raffle of the automobile will probably be one of the most profitable features of the Carnival and is probably at- tracting more interest than any other activity at the present time. There will be a total of ap- proximately 30 different booths ;and concessions in operation at the Carnival. Each concession and booth is being operated by one of the — aval activities in Key West. Among the booths which will be operated is the White Elephant Sale which is sponsored by the Civil Service Employees of the Navy, the Na- val Station and the Fleet All Weather Training Unit which is stationed at Boca Chica Field. Mrs. C. B. Harvey, Mrs. J. A. Farrell, Jr., and Mrs. W. A. Ellis have formed a joint committee to manage this concession. Nu- merous items have been pur- chased, and, at the same time, merchants of Key West have vol- untarily donated a great number of items for which members of their gratitude. Every item do- nated will have a card showing the donor. Other booths will be a Bomb- ing Range operated by the Naval | Air Station, a Dart Booth opera- ted by the Naval Station, a Rifle Range operated ‘by the Fleet All Weather Training Unit; Chil- dren’s Fish Pond operated by the Fleet Sonar School, a Fortune Teller operated by Submarine Squadron Four, Bingo operated by the Naval Base Staff, Horse Race operated by the Underway Training Unit, Depth Charge Game operated by the Naval Or- dnance Unit, and Games of skill j operated by the Naval Station Apprentices.
