Navy Department is preparing to remodel the buildings there and to make nine sets of office quarters and eight for men. a tate The transfer of the property to the Navy was announced yester- day at Washington by Army Secretary Kenneth Royall and Navy Secretary John Sullivan and notices sent to Captain C.°C. The Old Army Barracks, which is on the western shore of Gar- rison Bight, consists of 26 of land which have been turned over to the Navy and three acres at Eaton and White streets, which have been turned over to the Florida National Guard. Seventeen buildings will be used as quarters for officers and enlisted men. The site will also be used for expansion of the Navy’s facilities here that may be needed in the future. No private property would hav be condemned for the Nav use. Part of the Old Army Base was purchased in 1833, while the remainder of the property was bought in 1897. After World War iI, when the base was _ occupied by Army troops, the — buildings, some of which were put up dur- ing the Spanish-American War, have been desserted.
