No. 21 0 Sailor Beaten And Shot By Unknown Man VICTIM SAYS HE KNOWS OF NO REASON FOR ATTEMPT. ED MURDER; OCCURRED AT $10 THIS MORNING Orem N. Hyd ilor from the Sea Leopard, was shot and badly beaten by an unknown assailant at 5:10 this morning at Duval and Olivia streets. Hyde gave no reason for the attempted murder, nor did he know who his assailant was. Call Officer Wilson Jolly, and Chief Deputy Sheriff Sam Bath rushed to the scene after an unknown woman phoned of the shooting and beating. The injured man was taken to the United States Naval Dis- pensary where he was found by Naval doctors to have been shot in the buttocks by a small cali- bre pistol, believed to be a .32. Hyde also had several lacera- tions and bruises of the head, face ahd body. Acting Police Chief Joseph Kemp, who has had to take over the additional duties of police chief during B. Perez's illness, stated that he had assigned Of- fweer Frank Jolly to make a thorough investigation of the shooting.
