PAGE FOUR - Co; i |Trustees, Officers |Miss Thompson Is Community Xmas P Report Reveals Surplus Of $413.11 A surplus of $413.11 was left over after all bills for the Com- muhity Christmas Program had been paid, Mrs. Wilhelmina Har- vey, treasurer, reported last night at a meeting of the Community Christmas organization. Total expenses were $577.43, of which $244.83 was used by the Distribution Committee. The re- mainder was used for the Christ- mas parties at Bayview Park and Douglass (colored) School, at which 2500 children received can- dy and oranges. The report of Chairman John E. Pickens of the Distribution Committee revealed that 82 fam- ilies were distributed Christmas bags and 247 children were de- livered packages. General Chairman Lee Mason said that plans are under way to use the surplus $413.11 for a worthy community purpose. He thanked all contributors for their cooperation. Chairman Dwight Hunter of the Activities Committee reported that the City Electric System had furnished the lighting and wiring of the Christmas trees and toy station free of charge. The meeting was call- ed to order by the pastor, Rev. John E. Pickens, who conducted a brief devotional service. The pastor was then elected modera+ tor. Reports were received from of- ficers and organizations, most of which were very encouraging. The church has been without a regular pastor for nearly a year, but the work went on under the efficient leadership of consecrat- ed laymen and laywomen. Finan- cially, the church was reported in better condition than existed at the last annual meeting. Sunday School Superintendent John Archer reported for his de- partment, stating that the aver- age attendance for the year was 103. He particularly praised the work of teachers and officers be- cause of their faithful attention to duties.
