VOLUME LXVIL No. 190 SOUTHERNMOST NEWSPAPER King’s Application Stil ignored: AS Petitic Officials To Reemploy fin FOUR APPLICANTS WIRE®————__ ACCEPTANCE TO COME HERE FOR PER- SONAL INTERVIEWS Four telegraphic replies accept- ing an invitation to come to Key West for personal interviews with the city commissioners had been received by City Clerk Roy Ham- lin today from applicants for the position of city manager. Two of the acceptances came from Florida cities, one from Mis- souri and one from Texas. The! telegraphic application of Dave} King, former city manager, still remained ignored. Two other ap-j plicants offered to come to Key; West for interviews, providing part of their expense was paid. | One of them said that before he eame he would like information| on conditions which resulted in| the position being vacated. King Still Ignored The reason that Dave King’s application will not be considered, | according to an_pfficial at City fall, is that it arrived too late. | King’s telegram arrived in Key} West on the ninth, whereas all applications were supposed to have been in by the seventh.! Moreover, it was pointed that a prerequisite for each ap-' plicant was that he file a coi firming telegram with his -appli-, cation, This procedure was ace followed by King. Petition Circulated In the meantime, a_ petition! containing several hundted names } was’ being cidculated in Key West! calling upon city commissione: to reemploy King as city manager and protesting against the pres- ent set-up of the civil service hoard CAG 5S Hae atigewitan an ‘ort ‘ity Hall Saturday that | a police officers were tak> ing part in circulation of the pe- | titien he reprimanded them for such activity and declared that they Would suffer penalities if actually caught in any such ae- tion. Contents Of Petition “You are employes of this ad- ministration,” he said, “and if you cannot support it you should do nothing to hurt it.” The petition, addressed to the eity commissioners, and eontain- ing approximately 300 names, is as follows: “We, the undersigned, believe that the turmoil that has recent- ly beset our municipal govern- ment, culminating in the resigna- tion of Dave King as city mana- | ger, is due to the following: “4 —That the members of the city ¢eivil service board as a ma- jority, should not be di IV indirectly associated or affiliate d im the same business, or-occupa- tional capacity with any member of the city commission. During that time, the mule performed the tasks re- quired of it to Mathews’ full satisfaction. But now, as it must come to all men and beasts alike, age has crept up on the faith- ful mule and Mathews wants to find someone who will care of the animal better than he is ablé to do just now. However. the saddened pos- sessor of the mule says the new owner must be kind and considerate before he will re- lease his faithful mule. Mathews can’t conceive of the idea of having the mule destroyed, especially since ‘0 animal still can do sufficipx work. to take care of its keep. Should there be anyone in Key West who needs or care to own’ this: mule and will take good care of the animal, they are advised to contact the present owner at 304 Amelia street.
