Herels © The Fish Farm The fact is, says a man who eertainly ought to know, the fish farm is-very definitely the thing in the future. Fish, he adds, can as chickens. And, he reminds, just think of the fun catching them whenever you want. The authority for all this is H. S. Swingle, fish culturist at the experimental station of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, where fish which maybe supported from 40 to 100 pounds of fish an acre are made to support 600, even 800. The secret, of course, in high fish production is in pond man- agement and fertilizer to in- microseopie plant life upon which fish feed. Fertilized ponds, while supporting four to five times the weight of fish per acre as do streams, tend to increase be produced just as_ profitably production is a science. Ponds ate ee E ! fish ponds in Alabama. Today there are 4,000 and they are ing built at the rate now of about 500 a year. At present few ponds are used for commercial production, but Swingle believes that is just around the corner. Outside reve- nue now comes mostly from charging fishermen to fish. The cost of building fish ponds varies widely, but some are built as cheaply as $50 or $100 to the acre. ; Place Your ; : Refrigeration 3 BASIS : and you will get : H GUARANTEED : Refrigeration Service ; is More Economical H 8 It's Healthy and Safe .
