Since all political releases are paid matter in newspapers, this can- not be released under the name of the candidate, but the ideas are good. Here are some: Key West's future fame will depend to a great extent on its ability to attract tourists the year round. Many persons overlook {that point. Key Westers will vote |for you if you are for the majority of them. They quickly find you jout when you are not. There have been many attempts to jchange the voting mind of the electorate here but I have never ‘seen this accomplished. Herb Thomas is tem- porarily in charge at West Palm You can’t dump a tourist out on Duval Street and say: “Here it is, take it or leave it.” The art- icle goes on to say that what Key West should plan for principally is its oceanfront park and bath- |ing beach. | e . LIAISON WORK T have been inquirirg around as to the eventual possikility of liai- son committees from various or- ganizations meeting with the Chamber of Commerce at Board of Directors’ meetings and thus giving the Chamber a more repr sentative vote of all the busines men and businesswomen of the ty. I also inquired as to pos- sible consolidations but the mem- bers of the business associations do not seem to favor this plan. They seem to think that they have good going organizations and that they can do a lot for the city independently. One of the big kicks against the Chamber is that it does not have a full time trained in vine. This grapevine, which is said to be faster than wireless, spreads far and wide everything known about political dealings. zk * EVERYTHING KNOWN \ A true adage is that everything you say bad about another fellow eventually comes: to his ears in Key West. Politically, you cannot | deceive if the votes of the people |are free and untrammeled. A man can make a speech and say many things and then quickly the do- ings of his own life are rehashed and what he has actually done. The picture, thus compared with the speech, is sometimes ironical. ;On the newspaper we hear many |Tumors and every rumor has some little spark of truth. At the same time the type of advertising and the {location of the advertising can be determined. These liaison com- |mittees from the various organi- zations of the city appear to my way of thinking to be the best ef- jfort to get concerted, complete action, for the present. Appir- ently, the desire is to keep a number of busine: working for the city. These son committees can feed ideas in- to the central Chamber of Com- merce.
