President Adams appointed Wallace B. Kirke, Clem C. Price and H. C. Hodge as a committee to investigate Mr. Popkins’ suggestion. The proposed ferry, service be- tween Key West and Havana was discussed and the secretary was instructed to contact the Gulf Atlantic Transportation Company and the P. and O. Steamship Company and offer any assistance possible by the Chamber of Commerce in order to expedite the service in and out of Key West. The board decided that every effort should be made to retain Boca Chica airfield as a base and not to let. it get into a caretaker status. Plane service in and out of Key West was discussed with em- phasis on service between Key West and Havana. Secretary Spottswood reported that he had had recent correspondence with Mr. Baker, president of National Airlines, and officials in Wash- ington, and that the inaugura- tion of National’s” fight to” Ha- vana was awaiting the decision of the CAB.
