#AGE SIX * PHONE 535 R. Schone Once Ran Factory With Fifty In the early part of 1884, R, Dobarganes left Havana for Key West on account of his political opinions, and accepted a situation in the large cigar factory of Mr. E. H. Gato as bookkeeper, where he remained for about eighteen months, when he left Mr. Gato to accept a situation as general agent for the large cigar factory of Mr. E. Canals, and established his business office at No. 98 Maiden Lane, Néw York, and where he remained for six months, when he again returned to Key West and accepted a situ- ation in the office of Mr. E. Can-; als as head bookkeeper, yandj} which position he held until March 1888, when he began, business for himself. Mr. Dobarganes, from his close attention to business and his polished and courteous manner, coupled with strict integrity suc- ceeded in winning the entire confidence and respect of all who Cigarmakers Here knew: him, and in the absence of the members of the firm, which frequently occurred, and for long periods; :he was placed in |; charge of the management of the entire business, giving: perfect satisfaction in Ea iristance. About the middle of March, 1888, Mr. Dobarganes opened up a small factory ‘for himself on the corner of Thomas and Olivia streets and employed some eight or ten cigar makers, but from the superior quality of his cigars he was soon forced to increase his force to fifty cigar makers, all of whom were rapid, first-class workmen, and he employed nothing but the very finest Span- ish or Havana tobacco in making the cigars. These goods gave the most perfect satisfaction to every dealer who handled them, and the orders poured in to the ex- tent that it was necessary for Mr. Dobarganes to double his force.
