LIBERATORS i ina dsady: stream roll off th theassembly:jine; new we plkaas are shown await- ing test flights outside the é By DAVID J. WILKIE | AP Features DETROIT, May 24. — The! dream of volume production of giant four-engined bomber planes at Willow Run is assuming ma- terial form. Out of the great factory west of here, which a few months ago} was the subject of several inves- tigations and many conjectures, the big B-24 Liberators are be ing delivered in steadily increas- ing numbers. The daily number remains a military secret that probably will not be disclosed until the war ends. Within the plant, however, the great war-birds move nose- to-tail over long assembly lines; they move on a fixed schedule to the fueling stationand> out of the east end of the plant for fina: tests on the adjacent airfield. wide-sweeping .. con- fined up for tests. C. E. Wilson, of the War Pro- duction Board, said recently aft- er inspecting the plant, that 500 ‘bombers would be coming from the Wilow Run production lines daily before next winter. The basis for this assertion is appar- ent within the factory where something akin to a_ production miracle appears to have been wrought. Every one of the thousands of ‘workers seems to know exactly what to do and the most effi- cient way to do it. The jigs and GIRL WORKERS rivet the “canopy” of a B-24.
