MONDAY, MAY 24, 1948 PHILLIES SPLIT WITH PIRATES CHICAGO CUBS TAKE TWO GAMES FROM BOSTON BRAVES Spécial to The Citinen) NEW YORK, May 24.—The Philadelphia Phillies split a dou- bleheader yesterday with the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pirates taking the first game, 4 to 1. The score in the second was 5-2 in fa- vor of the Phillies. The twin bill drew an all-time record Philly crowd of 37,176. The Chicago Cubs won both games of a twin bill from the Bos- ton Braves. The second game was! a ten-inning affair. Indians took a doubleheader from the New York Yankees to Sweep the three-game series. The Washington Senators defeated the White Sox, 11 to 0.
