Se ~who FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3% 1942 FROM THE NORTHRO _ SCRAPBOOKS Moulder Of Men Culver Military Academy of Culver, Ind. is more than a tory.school for college ... it is a preparatory school for menhood itself. Culver is one of Atéri¢a’s greatest military acadamies and its enrollment is exceeded by no other private school in the en- tire United States. For 22 con- secutive years, the War Départ- ment hes designated Culver as an “Honor School’—a distinction difficult to earn. Everything that eppeals to the red‘blcoded American Boy is aveilable at Culver. There’s the glamour of unifoms; action aplen- ty for all in the school’s amazing physical education set-up; class- es are small so that every stu- dent gets his share of classroom attention. It’s herd to lay a finger on the things that make Culver a great school. One senses somethin different the moment he set foot cn the beautiful campus The school is steeped in traditio: —yet retains the dash and fast moving cction of college life. It | is almost at once apparent that| Culver gives a remarkably-bal-| anced schooling. In the fall of 1894, Culver was opened by wealthy Henry Harri-| short | son Culver. It burned time later. Next year Culver was rebuilt and began with enrollment of 109 boys. Cu teday consists of 15 buildin a There cre 700 cadets in the win-| ter course; 1,000 in summer. The Culver family has never taken a penny of profit from the | school. Instead, it has generously from personal to enlarge and increase the scop- of this truly remarkable educa tional institution given In 1935 a slate of women offi cés took over the running of the town of Byron, Okla., from men wo had run it for 40 vears. Then Mayor Bessie Lemors re. ported that the women’s. board had pzid all bills and had piled | up a surplus for the first time in Bryon’s history. Incidentally, we hav> pretty good assurances that at least one of the two men we are putting up will be accepted at the party caucus two weeks hence, “We recommend Don Boyd for junior class president and Todd Malone for senior vice-president.” Todd’s somewhat wandering mind was brought up with a jerk. “What the—” he said.
